Age Categories & Divisions


SOLOSs:
-
Compete in their age category.
-
All dancers will compete based on their age as of December 31, 2025 (5-18yrs).
DUETS AND TRIOS:
-
Compete in their age division.
-
For duets and trios, the age category will be determined by the oldest dancer in the group (5-18yrs).
GROUPS:
-
Dance Comp Genie will tabulate the age categories for group entries.
-
Small Group 4 - 9 dancers.
-
Large Group 10 - 19 dancers.
-
Line Group 20 + dancers.
PRODUCTION:
-
All productions compete against each other.
-
Must include 20 dancers minimum.
-
May include any style or combination of styles.
-
Minimum of 7 minutes maximum of 15 minutes.
-
Maximum time allowed for any set up and take down of props in 5 minutes each.
AGE DIVISION:
-
​MINI ages 8 yrs and under.
-
JUNIOR ages 9-11yrs.
-
TEEN ages 12-14yrs.
-
SENIOR ages 15-18yrs.
-
19 & over (can not qualify for the Dance Off)

Catergories
CLASSICAL BALLET DEMI-POINTE
A dance using classical ballet technique and classical music. No props allowed.

DEMI-CHARACTER/CHARACTER BALLET
A Dance using ballet tehnique to portray a mood, character or tell a story. Props are allowed.

CLASSICAL POINTE
A dance using pointe shoes using classical technique.
​
JAZZ
A dance using jazz technique.
​
TAP
A dance using tap technique. Tap sounds many not be pre-recorded.
​
LYRICAL
A dance that provides an interpretation of music with lyrics using a combination of jazz and ballet techniques.

MODERN/CONTEMPORARY
A dance exploring freedom of movement using contemporary and/or modern techniques.
​
HIP HOP
A dance using hip hop styles that may include but are not limited to street jazz, break dancing, popping, locking, waacking, house, etc.
MUSICAL THEATRE
A dance that includes an equal amount of singing and dancing where the performer's own voice is used to sing live. No microphones are allowed. Any music containing vocals, even back up vocals, will be disqualified.
ACRO
A dance with a focus on acro technique.
OPEN
Dances that do not fit into any of the other categories may be entered here. Performances must be based in one of the other competition styles. Lip syncing is allowed.
PRODUCTION
Production Category Guidelines
Overview: The Production category does not include age divisions; all entries will compete against one another.
Performance Requirements:

Minimum Dancers: 20

Styles: Any style or combination of styles is permitted.

Duration: Performances must be between 8 and 15 minutes.
Follow-Up: All entries will receive a follow-up call to confirm:

Estimated setup and takedown times
-
Length of the performance
Props and Sets:
-
Use of props and sets is allowed.
-
Setup and Takedown Time: A maximum of 10 minutes is allocated.
Additional Fees: If setup and takedown times exceed the 10-minute limit, an additional fee may be charged.

Group Dance Off
At the conclusion of our competition, we will host the Group Dance Off, featuring two categories: Mini/Junior and Teen/Senior.
Selection Process:

The dances chosen for the Dance Off are based on scores awarded throughout the competition.
Special Features:
-
Each Dance Off group will receive special lighting designed to coordinate with their performance.
Judging:
-
All three adjudicators will evaluate the Dance Off groups, and the highest average score will earn CASH prizes and the title of Top Performing Group of the competition.
